This movie was complete chaos and I loved every second.
I saw the trailer and was put off a bit by the wokeness, obviously this was entirely for comedic effect and it did help make the film more ridiculous than it already was, but there was something that just appealed to me about what was meant to be a modern murder mystery. It was a wild ride I'll give it that.
My local cinema chain then put this on as as an unlimited screening, so I really had no choice but to watch it (this was a while ago as the movie has been out for friggen ages).
Bodies Bodies Bodies had a lot of screaming, a lot of avoidable death, a lot of blood, a lot of bullshit. I could go on. What is the most annoying thing is that I really wanted to hate this film, I was sitting there watching the most predictable and tragic thing play out in front of me, which was utterly pathetic, and yet I was hooked and it is a pretty good film. I hate to love it, I really do. But the final knife in the gut was the ending. Everything was pretty predictable until that point. Then it fucks you up.
The movie follows 5 friends and two of their new partners as they meet up for a hurricane party. This in itself seems pretty daft, but it is expected from a bunch of idiot teenagers so we can move past that. Literally as it begins to storm and chuck down hail they are in a swimming pool, DRUNK. Come on. Anyway, so these 6 kids and a much older man are having a really good time until tension forms from jealously and the group all separates while playing the game Bodies Bodies Bodies.
Now this is a game everyone is familiar with, but seems to go by a hundred different names. We were just introduced to it on season 2 of Only Murders in the Building and now this movie pops out. I love the surreal aspect of this though, you are only playing a murder game but then someone is actually murdered? Divine.
Anyway, they all separate and the newest member of the gang comes across one of the group with their throat cut. Mass panic ensues as they realise one of them has killed him, but they have no idea who. Cue hilarity ensuing as one by one each member of the group is picked off, leaving only two who happen to have been dating for a month. I won't spoil the ending but it is entirely hilarious and it will probably make you angry when you see it. What a fucking waste.
I am not a massive fan of Pete Davidson, but he was alright in this. Everyone in this movie sort of over-acted but it helped set the scene. The fact he was a complete dick sold his character and made the story believable.
Bodies Bodies Bodies is a hilarious morbid slasher film. Although I wouldn't really call it a slasher. It is a little gory in some places, very bleak in others, there are lots of thrills but not in the Scream sense. That and Halloween is basically the kings of slasher flicks and this ain't either. There isn't the traditional chase, it is just all tension no let down, no room to breathe. But it was good. Infuriating, but good.
I give Bodies Bodies Bodies a 6/10. It was insane, it was whiny, it made me feel old and I am younger than a lot of the cast who are playing these kids. I feel like a bitter old grandma sitting on her porch drinking wine from the bottle when I watch this movie and hate on the kids and their antics.
