59. Ticket to Paradise

This was the most adorable little film I have seen in a long time.

I am not a rom-com kind of gal, but I saw the trailer for this and it was instantly on my list. The Roberts-Clooney combo was just too good to miss and when you see a movie with them together you know its going to be good.

Ticket to Paradise follows a divorced couple who form a truce to stop their daughter following through with her whirlwind marriage. Long story short their baby girl goes off on a holiday with her bestie only to meet the man of her dreams, fall in love with his island, and decide to get married. At first they want to stop this but then they grow to change their minds.

Ticket to Paradise is funny, it's grown up, it's nostalgic, it's pleasing to the eye. I liked it. I did find myself spacing out a little bit in places, I think maybe that was me though but perhaps it was a little slow here and there. But overall it was just a fuzzy feel good movie that you wanna stick on with your besties, snuggled in a blanket and eating junk food.

All of the cast had great chemistry and it looked like they all had an amazing time. I watched an interview with the two main stars where Clooney said his family basically adopted Julia during filming as it was Covid times, so they were always together and it's nice that they are so comfortable with each other. That off screen relationship really helped to sell the on screen one and you can just tell that despite the fact they are meant to hate each other there is something else there.

I was really happy to see Billie Lourd in a happy movie. To be honest I was just really happy to see her. I love her, I love her mum and her Grandma.

I'll be honest there isn't a massive amount I can even say about this film as it is pretty much your typical rom-com. It would be good as background noise or a sleepover movie. But it isn't overly special. The plot is good, the scenery is magical and the cast are brilliant. It has potential for a sequel if they were so inclined but I think that would spoil it a bit, how we left it leaves a happy ending to the imagination and I like that.

Our main duo pretty much embody the embarrassing parents of a 20 something year old to a T. They made this movie realistic, so I can't knock that at all, it wasn't far fetched in the slightest. But it doesn't massively stick out from any other movie in this genre either. I'm a big fan of the Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock and that is pretty much my standard, this wasn't as great as that overplayed movie but it had similar themes. A love-hate relationship with plenty of banter seems healthy enough and is what I strive for so maybe that is why I am drawn to these films. It was aight *shrugs*.

I give Ticket to Paradise a 6/10. The movie was really enjoyable when I was watching it and I would totally watch it again. But it was predictable and the genre as a whole I just find pretty boring because at this point you have the same tropes again and again just with different peeps and different settings. I really like all the cast and for me this is the only reason the movie is memorable. Everyone works so well together and the star appeal is enough to boost the ratings. This has extended my rom-com list only slightly and is on the top ten list only by default. Just remember the movie is good, just good.

Watch it and let me know if you enjoyed it!

TTFN!
