Before we start, no I haven't seen the first one. I missed that opportunity when it was on Film 4 and they refused to put it on catch up.
However, when my parents voiced the fact they wanted to see this movie (they have seen the first one) and invited Jamie and I along, we decided it would be a laugh.
And a very gory laugh it was.
Nobody 2 follows Hutch, a killer for hire, as he struggles to remain a family man while he pays back his debt to his employer. He decides to go on holiday in order to stop his wife from leaving him, only a chance encounter causing him to lose his temper spirals the holiday way out of his control and brings the whole family together in order to stop the threat.
I love a hitman/revenge story. Red, Love Hurts, Red 2, what I've seen of John Wick. I love a movie where a single person seems unstoppable but then you add a team and they become godlike. Having them take on Sharon Stone of all people as well seemed like a brilliant move.
My favourite thing about this movie was the fact that the family seemed like a proper family. Nutty grandpa, wary mum, overworked dad, young oblivious daughter, and troublemaker/protective son. Not to mention the cool uncle...
Speaking of nutty grandpa, I have missed Christopher Lloyd. He's just such a character no matter who he plays. They should have had him in Red, him with John Malkovich, all hell would have broken lose! This was the right genre for this man, unhinged is his speciality.
We saw them all step up here and accept Hutch's life (those who weren't already involved anyway) and so the weight was off him to try and juggle the balance of his home life and his work life which was drowning him. They also gained two dogs which made me happy.
I wish we had seen more of Stone and her madness. We saw the lengths she went to, and we knew of her reputation, but I dont think she had enough screen time to really show us how much of a threat she was to our guys. It made the take down really underwhelming. I mean this woman slaughtered an entire casino because 3 guys tried to cheat the system. She was also a feminist icon in this moment as she personally took down the guy belittling her, the god damn owner of the joint. I loved her dancing scene and it reminded me of the Joker. Her in her suit dancing her stuff, it was Joaquin Pheonix-esque.
However, Colin Hanks made his Sheriff the most despicable arsehole he could and I loved it. The fact he acted all high and mighty but was cast aside was so satisfying to watch and I loved every second. He's dead talented, but considering his heritage we knew that was gunna be the case.
I do hope there is a Nobody 3. I look forward to watching the first movie, but now that the entire family are involved I want to see more on how they adapt especially as there are bound to be other people coming after them now, the threat is never truly over. But we will see.
I'm giving Nobody 2 a 7/10. It was gory, light-hearted, and fun. Nothing like a bit of mindless violence to entertain you for a few hours. The time flew by and it was the end of the movie before I knew it. I never had a chance to get bored, didn't think it dragged on anywhere, it was well thought out. Needed a tad more Christopher Lloyd sprinkled in the mix, but overall I'm happy for a bit of this for a mindless Saturday night cinema trip and my family enjoyed it too.
